Mimi Avellana

Teacher Mimi's kids yoga journey started back in 2013--a year into her first teaching job at a preschool, where her interest in yoga sparked upon learning that her co-teacher was a certified yoga instructor and had already been teaching for a couple of years. After attending a private yoga class with her co-teacher as the instructor, she eventually found a kids yoga teacher certification hosted by Urban Ashram Yoga, in partnership with Rainbow Kids Yoga. It was a 3-day intensive workshop that was "tons of fun!" she recalls. After her certification, she began teaching kids yoga at a studio called Yoga Philippines, while teaching sessions in her village's clubhouse (and had lots of pleasant memories with her students there!) What’s even more memorable for her, was that her little daughter, Gabbi, was always one of her students. After a 10-year hiatus from teaching kids yoga, Teacher Mimi is back on the mat and even more passionately than before! She says that with the decade that had passed, she believes she has matured as a mother, educator, woman, and individual, and has learned to become more intentional with the things that she does--kids yoga included.
